May 31 - UNESCO Geopark Sharp Island exploration
Another overcast and calm day - perfect sea kayaking weather in the UNESCO Global geopark.
Shelter Bay is the location of the UNESCO Global Geopark and as such is globally recognised for its unique features and significance. Sharp island is the edge of the mega volcano that created it. Our journey takes us around the island both above and under the water.
These photos attest to the beauty of the locality and how the mood changes as you paddle through the inner islands of sheltered beaches and small villages to the more open and exposed coastal features at the eastern end of Sharp Island. A great introduction to sea kayaking and to a place recognised by the United nations as globally significant.
