Sea Kayak Adventure Group

Ocean Litereacy International (Hong Kong)

Sea Kayaking is an exhilarating way to explore the amazing coastal landscapes and islands of Hong Kong.
Powered only by your paddle, you will get the ultimate feeling of freedom as you glide over the ever-changing ocean.

Self-guided kayaking is where you rent the kayak equipment and independently paddle (without a guide).  It is NOT just hiring a kayak and paddling off.

That is irresponsible for yourself and the organisation that is renting the equipment.
Self-guided tours are where the outfitter provides you with knowledge of the day, the location, the equipment and what to look out for during your day, giving you the information you require to paddle safely and enjoyably.

There are some benefits to this, as well as some downsides, but the choice is yours to make.

  • no guide
  • kayak, paddle and buoyancy vests provided.
  • route choices and information provided
  • safety information provided
  • free club membership (optional)

No skills required

The sit-on-top kayak is designed to allow people with little or no skills to experience the joy of paddling on the ocean. They are easy to control and difficult to capsize (tip-over).

The kayaks themselves are safe and easy to use, however, the people paddling them can still take the kayak into places it should not go, or in conditions, they cannot handle. Do not forget your safety depends on you, not your kayak!

There is no such thing as a perfectly safe sea kayak trip, so it is always necessary to think and use good judgement when playing in the ocean.

self-guided kayak trips

What’s great about about renting a sit-on-top kayak?

You get to explore the islands, bays and beaches at your own pace. You can rent a kayak for a whole day, then use your time to relax and paddle around where you want to, stop when you want, paddle when you want, swim when you want and eat when you want. No sticking with a tour itinerary or any group requirements.

You can map out your own adventure. When you rent a kayak, you are given an understanding of the area and instructions on which places are great to visit.

Self-guided kayak tours give you a chance to be athletic, but on your own time. When you go with a group of kayakers, you have to keep pace to ensure you don’t miss anything or get left behind. When you are self-guided, you can exercise and paddle at your leisure. You can slow down, speed up, or just chill out for a minute, all because YOU want to.

Self-guided kayak tours are times for reflection as much as adventure.
There is nothing quite as calming as being on the ocean, with a gentle breeze sharing the experience with your friend or family.
It unwinds your nerves, relaxes your mind, and soothes your very soul.

The weather conditions can change quickly and be troublesome. When you are out on your own kayak trip, you can get caught up in these changing conditions without knowing what to do, so be careful!
