Starting from our base in Kei Ling Ha San Wai we paddle our sea kayaks north through 3 fathoms Cove into the Tolo Channel.
3 Fathoms Cove was a favourite shelter for the old trading ships in the early days of settlement as it has a deep mud bottom, perfect for anchoring. Surrounded by high mountains which feature cascading waterfalls (in the wet season), this beautiful bay is the home to the white egret and grey herons, both fishing birds.
We pass through a local fishing village before turning east into the channel.
If the day is warm, we take the opportunity to swim or snorkel in the crystal clear waters. Our kayak journey takes us eastward along the southern coast until we reach the Lai Chi Chung Geopark section. Here we take a break from our kayaks to visit the old Hakka Village and explore the coastal geological features that make this a unique part of the UNESCO Global Geopark.
Our return journey is via 2 tiny coral atols in the middle of the channel. Peace and solitude in a crowded world makes you wonder if you are still in Hong Kong.
The final kayak route will be determined by the wind and tidal currents on the day. Your guide will select it to match the skills and experience of the paddlers with the conditions at the time.
We will be using stable and fast double sea kayaks.
